The Worst Song I Heard Last Month: Kid Rock's Sweet Home Werewolf Song

Lately, when I visit my parents, they’ve been leaving the pop station on, and I listen to it more for how things are mixed or engineered.  The songs themselves these days are awful; weak chord changes and most of them sound like they sampled noises from a glitchy Atari 2600 and put a drum loop on it.

Well, I heard a few again, but this month's puker is Kid Rock's Werewolves Of London/Sweet Home Alabama song.  Again, I couldn't be bothered to find out what the song's really called, but I guarantee you Warren Zevon's rolling over in his grave.

I think this song was an accumulation of things: For starters, Kid Rock doesn't really rock. I don't think he ever did.  2nd - the Live Bullet album cover rip off was a tip that there isn't too much originality with the guy.  So hearing two songs thrown together, one being my least favourite song of all time (Sweet Home Alabama) does make it worth while to get out of the chair and flip the station - or maybe put on Neil Young's Southern Man.

Oh and kids, it's not cool to be trash and it's even uncooler to pretend you're trash.  If you need a gimmick, get something appealing.  Just make sure you have the important parts like playing well and having good songs first.  Kid Rock can sell all the albums he can but he'll always be a joke.  I just hope for his next single he doesn't mash two Motown songs together but I wouldn't put it past him.
